Micah Ministries

Micah Ministries offers training, resources, and consulting in music, worship, and spiritual formation.  Pre-designed workshops are offered on a rotational basis to aid church leaders and individuals with common and current issues in these ministry areas.  Micah also works with churches to develop programs to match a specific need or interest.

R. Kevin Johnson heads up Micah Ministries. He has extensive experience developing worship-based ministries in the local church. Johnson was Associate Pastor at First Baptist Church, Boone, NC, from 2006 until 2009.  He served in chaplaincy ministry at Christ Hospital in Jersey City, NJ, and was Director of Programs for Children, Families, and Young Adults at Christ Church United Methodist in New York City from 2003-2005. Before going to Christ Church, Johnson was Associate Pastor at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Shelbyville, TN (2000-2002) where he directed the worship and music life of the church, led Senior Adult ministries, and assisted with Membership Care. Johnson was also Director of Children’s and Youth Ministry at All Angels’ Episcopal Church in New York City from 1998-2000.

Johnson earned an Associate of Fine Arts degree in music from North Greenville University, a Bachelor of Music degree in music education from Furman University, a Master of Music degree in sacred music and musicology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a doctorate in worship and spiritual formation from The Webber Institute for Worship Studies. Kevin was ordained to Christian ministry on December 14, 1997, by New Hope Baptist Church in Mansfield, Texas, where he was Associate Pastor.

Johnson’s research interests include worship preparation, spiritual formation in worship, worship design and American sacred choral music. He is a freelance author whose articles have appeared in The Secret Place, the Biblical Recorder, and Children’s Teacher Magazine. He is the author of Lenten Lessons and is a contributing author to the Encyclopedia of Christian Civilization (Oxford: Blackwell, 2008).
